New member field guide
Welcome to Golden Gate Toastmasters, friend. Get connected, find your feet, and take that first step onto the stage.
Adapted from the club onboarding checklist (opens in a new tab). Check off each step as you go.
The VP of Membership and Treasurer process your application and arrange access. The VP of Membership sends your welcome email, and the VP of Education helps you through this checklist. Those are officer responsibilities—you don’t need to check them off here.
Start with your accounts.
Look for emails from membership@toastmasters.org and server@toastmastersclub.org. Follow both invitations first. Missing an email? Ask the VP of Membership.
This is your home for official membership and education records.
FreeToastHost is where you reserve meeting roles and speech slots. It has a separate login from this app.
Make the club part of your week.
Keep meetings and club events on your calendar.
Meeting recaps, club news, and the announcements you need.
Read #welcome, then post in #ice-breakers to unlock the other channels. For help, use #discord-help and tag @officer.
Small roles. A first speech. Your own pace.
Try Timer, Ah-Counter, or Grammarian. Read the role guide, then reserve a role on the agenda site. Ask an officer to walk you through it.
Your first speech introduces you to the club. Choose a story, prepare an outline, and book a speech slot when you feel ready.
Sign in to toastmasters.org → My Home → Go to Base Camp. Explore the paths and choose one with help from the VP of Education.
Click Complete My Project in Base Camp at the end of each project. Selecting a project on the agenda site or logging it in this app does not complete your official education record.
Keep the resource library handy for meeting roles, education links, and club contacts. You’re already in the GGTM app—one more step done.
Optional ways to get involved. These don’t count toward your core checklist.
The club is introducing a 60-day Buddy System to help newcomers connect and take their first roles. Ask the VP of Education about the current program; matching in this app will come later.
If you want recordings uploaded privately for your reference, review the FAQs and complete the consent form. This is optional.
Share feedback, news, or ideas with the club. Your experience helps us welcome the next member.
